7 pictures of New Writtle Street, Chelmsford City
Taken on 23 April 1988

New Writtle Street was home to Chelmsford, and from 1938 Chelmsford City between 1922 and 1997. One of the finest old style non league grounds, the record attendance of 16,807 was set on 10 September 1949 when local rivals Colchester United visited for a Southern League match. The ground also saw crowds of 16,403 for an FA Cup match with Colchester in January 1968 and in 1973 15,557 witnessed the visit of Ipswich in the same competition. In 1960/61 the ground saw it's highest seasons average of 4,438.

Following the sale of the site to developers, the last game at New Writtle Street was played on 16 August 1997 when Clevedon Town were the visitors.
