Kingstonian 4 (2) - (0) 1 Lydd Town
FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round
3 September 2023
Attendance: 190 (with roughly half travelling up from the Kent coast)
Played at Imperial Fields, home to Tooting & Mitcham
189 ground, match and fan pictures from the Emirates FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round tie between Kingstonian (Pitching In Isthmian League Premier Division) and Lydd Town (Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division) at Imperial Fields.
Kingstonian were the better side in the first half and deserved their two goal half time lead, but the visitors stepped up a gear in second half and pulled a goal back after 69 minutes with a 25 yard screamer that went in off the underside of the bar, leaving the K's keeper (and the photographer!) with no chance. This seemed to rattle the hosts and for ten minutes or so it looked like Lydd would take the game to a reply, but they failed to make their dominance count and Kingstonian restored their 2 goal lead on the break after 78 minutes. This took the wind out of Lydds sails and Kingstonian dominated posession for the rest of the match, hitting their fourth in the first minute of stoppage time.
As a side note, it's sad to see the one time Conference side and twice FA Trophy winners Kingstonian living a nomadic existence and playing in front of 100 or so fans, albeit on a Sunday afternoon against lower level opposition, due to past mismanagement and the ambitions of another club.
