Furnace Green playing fields
1 August 2019

The new Thameslink sheds south of Three Bridges station

Three Bridges station towards the top and the new Thameslink sheds. Norwich Road estate is to the left of centre and Maidenbower and Pound Hill are to the right, separated by the curved line of trees which mark the Three Bridges to East Grinstead Line, now Worth Way.

A similar view to the first picture, but from higher up. Pound Hill across the top and Maidenbower below Worth Way. Just left of centre, by the Pylons, is the subway from Norwich Road into Maidenbower.

Looking north along the railway line past Three Bridges Station' Gatwick Airport station can also be seen further up line.

A wider view of the previous photo. In the top left quarter is Three Bridges, in the bottom left is Furnace Green, the bottom right is Maidenbower and Pound Hill is in the top right.

An easterly view across Maidenbower with Oriel just over the railway line.  At the bottom in the centre is the tunnel taking Maidenbower Lane under the railway.

A south easterly view of Maidenbower over Oriel's playing fields. In the bottom right is Marion Road, in Furnace Green and in the top right, just before the railway leaves the frame, the M23 crosses it.

Looking south across Forestfield and Tilgate Golf Course into Tilgate Forest. Above and to the right of centre is Campbell's Lake at Tilgate Park.

A view west across Furnace Green and Tilgate. Hawth Woods is in the top right corner with Town Centre beyond. K2 is in the top left corner and Furnace Parade and The Charcoal Burner are right of centre.

Looking north, Waterlea Water Meadows is across the centre with Norwich Road lined out below. Beyond is the Waterlea area, the Paymaster building, Stephenson Way industrial Estate and Three Bridges. The college Tower is over on the left with The Hawth Theatre just below and left.

Looking north west towards the Town Centre, St. Andrew's School field is in the centre, with Furnace Parade to the left and The Hawth Theatre a little way above. Hawth Woods are to the left of the theatre with the Town Centre beyond. Leith Hill fills the horizon

Looking north across the Water Meadows. The Paymaster building is just to the left and above centre and Three Bridges FC, marked with the tall narrow trees, is to the right of Paymaster. Stephenson Way is right of centre.

The railway sheds.

The Billinton Drive area of Maidenbower. The roundabout next to Oriel is on the far right.

Oriel in the foreground and Maidenbower Playing Fields beyond. Towards the top left corner, just below the strip of pale field, the spire of St Nicholas Church at Worth is visible above the trees.

Oriel as the focus.

Oriel playing fields and the southern end of Maidenbower.

The southern end of Maidenbower and Worth Forest. The footbridge, from Tilgate Golf Course into Maidenbower, and the motorway bridge over the railway are both clearly visible. The field that is bathed in sunlight towards the top right are those on the other side of the railway to the rail works depot at the end of Parish Lane, just before the tunnel.

A slight turn to the right, looking over Tilgate Golf Course

The Forestfield estate (and conservation area) with the cheese houses to the right. At the very top, in the centre, is Campbell's Lake.

South west across the Forestfield estate and golf course towards Tilgate Park

The cheese house sin the foreground, with Gainsborough Road playing fields just above centre and Tilgate beyond. The Oaks Primary School is on the far right, level with the playing fields. The water tower and radar at Cottesmore are on the top of the hill in the centre.

Furnace Green in the foreground and right, Hawth Woods in the top right quarter with Southgate beyond, Tilgate is beyond the line of trees left of centre, which marks the eastern edge of Loppets Road Playing Fields. Kilnwood Vale is towards the top left and top centre is Ifield West. Southgate Church is also visible a little way above the right end of the line of trees.
