Built in 1220, The Church of St John the Baptist in Okewood Hill, Abinger, Surrey was, at the time of founding, sited on a major thoroughfare half a mile west of Stane Street, the Roman road from London to Chichester, but as the years have passed and traffic has changed it has found itself isolated in woods at the far southern fringes of the parish of Abinger, accessible only by ancient rights of way on foot and a rough track by car.
