Sidlesham 1(0) - (0)1 Stansfeld (aet. 1-1 at 90 mins)
FA Vase first qualifying round
31 August 2019
Att: 39

Having left Crawley at 12:45 in bright sunshine, no wind and a comfortable 23 degrees I was surprised to cross the downs and arrive in Sidlesham at 2:00 to be greeted by a cold wind and cloudy skies. Why didn't I bring a jacket?

The first half was probably the dullest 45 minutes of football I've seen this season with the only highlight being the first sin-binning of a player for dissent that I have seen since it's introduction; Sidleshams number 10!

The second half was a little brighter, but still low on chances. Stansfeld took the lead when a dragged shot from the left (which would have gone for a throw in, had it had the necessary pace) was met at the back post and tucked away. It looked like this goal would decide the match, but Sidlesham were awarded a late penalty and no mistake was made.

At this point I was now shivering and willing someone, ANYONE to score a late winner, but decent late chances were squandered by each team so the game went into extra time. The first half was no improvement on the rest of the match, but by the time we were into the second period both sets of players were absolutely spent and the game opened up. It seemed as though we had two five a side's going on, using one ball with a big gap in the middle of the park as no one had the energy left to get back or get out. Unfortunately no one had the energy to snatch a winner either, so the game will be replayed.
