South Park 1 (0) - (0) 0 Sutton Common Rovers
Isthmian League South Central
8 October 2022
Attendance: 137
This game was not on my radar for today, but heavy traffic on the M25 and other routes meant that my preferred choices were not that appealing. This was not a new ground for me, though the last time I came to South Park it was as an opposition player in the Crawley & District League some 20 years ago before the ground had been enclosed. It's fair to say that the club have made significantly greater progress than I ever did!
Onto the match and despite having a man sent off with no arguments for the denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity, South Park triumphed in a scrappy game of few chances against Sutton Common Rovers. The hosts really should have had a second goal, but the referee was quick to blow his whistle when the visiting goalkeeper wiped out his own defender as the ball was put into the net. Bizarrely, play was re-started with a an unchallenged drop ball at the keepers feet. For me, the right things to do would have been to have dropped it dead centre of the goal, inside the six yard box, at the feet of a South Park player whilst the keeper stood aside. Even though I have no affinity with either side, I was pleased that this made no difference to the end result.
