Cray Valley PM 5 (2) - (2) 2 Enfield Town
FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round
14 October 2023
Attendance: 579
Step 4 hosted step 3 in this battle to reach the first round proper of the FA Cup and after a bright start from the hosts, seniority looked to be counting when Enfield Town took the lead after only 6 minutes. This seemed to knock the stuffing from the hosts and Enfield Town pushed on looking for a second, but on 25 minutes Krycee Lisbie equalised with a scuffed shot. Five minutes later, Enfield retook the lead, but they were pegged back again in the 7th minute of the 4 added on (!) when Lisbie rose like a salmon to meet a cross from the right and loop a header into the top right corner.
The hosts started the second half well, forcing a save and hitting the bar, but their day seemed to take a turn for the worse when Lisbie, by far the best player on the pitch, limped off injured around 10 minutes into the half, but within a minute of the substitution they took the lead for the first time. With the game starting to slip away from the visitors, a badly timed tackle from Sam Youngs resulted in a second yellow card for Enfields number 8 leaving them chasing the game a man light, but Cray Valley didn't sit back and within a minute added a fourth and as the game entered added time Cray scored their fifth of the day to ensure they're in the hat for tomorrows draw. I'm sure all at Cray Valley will be hoping to be paired with Charlton Athletic, a mere two and a half miles to the north.
