Hythe faced an early setback when a Croydon counter attack was cynically brought to a halt by Theo McKenzie in just the 11th minute and the referee decided that a clear goalscoring opportunity had been denied, giving McKenzie his marching orders. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the visitors took the lead in the 34th minute when Anthony Adesite coolly converted from the penalty spot, sending Amadou Tangara in the hosts goal the wrong way.

Croydon equalised in the 55th minute through Tom Collins, but it took until the 80th minute (and a piece of good fortune) when Ademola Shokunbi's shot from an acute angle span off a defenders foot and looped over Joe Coleman in the visitors goal (this goal has been credited to David Omilabu who is noted as wearing no.7, but I'm 99% certain that it was scored by no.15). Croydon sealed the points with a close range tap in from Brandon Pierrick in injury time.
