Having played at nearby Leeds Road Stadium from their formation in 1908, Huddersfield Town moved to the Kirklees Stadium (also known as the Alfred McAlpine Stadium, the Galpharm Stadium and the John Smiths Stadium) in 1994, with the first match being third tier clash with Wycombe Wanderers, who took the points with a 1-0 win in front of 13,334 fans. The current capacity of the ground is 24,121 and the record football crowd of 24,263 was set when Liverpool visited for a Premier League match on 20 October 2018. The stadium record was achieved on 2 November 2013 when 24,375 witnessed the Rugby League World Cup match between England & Ireland.
