73 Pictures: Bike ride from Ifield to Porters Farm
15 July 2018

We made a 7:30am Sunday morning start, before it got too hot, for an 11 mile round trip on the bikes from Ifield to Porters Farm, a 17th century farmhouse just over a mile, as the crow flies, west of Rusper. We left Ifield West via Stoneycroft Walk and the football field, joining Kilnwood Lane and we followed this track to Faygate Lane where we turned north in order to reach the bridleway opposite Lambs Green which runs to Wimlands Road, via Rusper Court. We didn't go that far though, turning north again at Rusper Court for the steep climb through the fields up to Rusper. Just before reaching The Star we turned west, briefly using the Horsham Road before turning into Ashmore Lane which becomes a footpath running through some beautiful rolling countryside, eventually coming to Friday Street near the building that was the Royal Oak, though we didn't go that far.

On reaching Porters Farm we were disappointed to not be able to see the building due to tree coverage (that may one for early spring when they are bare then!) so we turned south up the hill towards the Nunnery and used the driveway of Nunnery Farm, from which we had some lovely views of Leith Hill, to climb the hill to Green Lane at the point at which it meets Old Holbrook. From here we turned eastwards towards the Rusper to Horsham road, which we crossed before disappearing into the hedgerow to get onto the footpath that runs through the cornfields of Old Park Farm.

This path eventually reaches Wimlands Road and from there we headed south to join Wimlands Lane, pausing at the view point to look over Horsham and on to the South Downs, before embarking the relatively flat journey home, again via Kilnwood Lane and Stoneycroft Walk.
