A 23 mile bike ride from Ifield to East Grinstead

64 photos from a 23 mile bike ride from Ifield West to East Grinstead on 29 June 2024. Our route out took us past the Mill Primary and Snell Hatch, through town, down Tilgate Drive and round the Water Gardens to access the tunnel under the railway which took as to the site of Blackwater Forge and up onto Worth Way. We took a slight detour at Rowfant station, leaving Worth Way to go via Rowfant House which, sadly, is looking rather sorry for itself. It should be hoped that this Grade 2* listed 15th century building will soon have a new owner.
We rejoined Worth Way at Rowfant business park and stayed on the route all the way to East Grinstead, stopping briefly near the Grade 2* listed Gullege near Imberhorne, which the Historic England listing states is early 17th century, but the roof shape makes me think that the 1948 survey was wrong, as they have often proven to be, and more recent examination could date it to a century or two earlier.
On our return we stopped at St Nicholas Church, Worth, and from here we left Worth Way, heading back through Maidenbower, past Oriel into Furnace Green and along the public footpath from the Cheese Houses to Tilgate golf club where we stopped for a swift half before returning to Ifield via K2, the Stadium, Cheals and Ifield Millpond.
